Google Cloud Vs Dreamhost Web Hosting Services-User Review

If you are an entrepreneur or a freelancer, where would you prefer to host your website and business emails, google cloud or other web hosting services?

I have used Google cloud, Google Workspace and Dreamhost web services to host my websites and emails and in this video, I am going to share with you my honest review. Which of these hosting services offers the best value for money?
I will approach this blog review by looking at each service value for your money.

    Pricing

How much does it cost to host websites and business email addresses? What features do I get for each listed price? Owing to many service providers in the marketplace, filtering your options using the pricing approach can really save time.

To get this right, you must have basic knowledge regarding web hosting in order to understand the features listed on the pricing table. E.g when they say, Free SSL certificate, what does it mean? Is this among the things you are looking for? With this in mind, let’s begin with Google cloud services.

    Google Cloud and Google Workspace

In order to use Google Cloud Services as an online business owner (with emails and website), you need to subscribe to 2 separate services; google workspace for business emails, file sharing, meetings and more and Google Cloud for hosting your website. These two products are purchased separately.

For google workspace, the pricing starts from $6 per user per month. What this means is that  you can add one domain(purchased elsewhere; google doesn’t sell domain names) which is main and other domains as aliases. In the main domain, you can only create 1 business email which is treated as a user. Other emails under the same domain or other domain you add are treated as aliases which means you need to login to the main email address to access the other emails.

All your emails will be delivered to the same inbox. This is not really good if you have employees who you want each one of them to have their independent business related email address.

One cool thing about Google Workspace is that you have access to many other google services including 30GB of storage space for the starter pack. Also email deliveries to your inbox are fast. Still on the emails, if an email is sent to you via a wordpress website page, it will not be delivered to your inbox.

I guess it’s filtered as spam. Sadly it’s not even delivered to the spam folder. It’s totally lost. To fix it you need to follow a very long procedure. To avoid trouble, I decided to embed Google Forms on my WordPress site to avoid problems.

If you have to host your websites on Google Workspace, you are only limited to having your website designed with Google Sites or Blogger.

If your website is designed with WordPress or other web design services, then you will need to go for the Google Cloud. This is a separate google service for hosting all other tech related services like websites, apps, SaaS apps and more.

You pay based on your usage which varies from time to time. For example, I have a small WordPress website and on my first month after all the discounts, I got billed $12, which I find very expensive considering this is only one WordPress website with less than 1000 visitors a month.

Also this bill has discounts already applied. Without discounts, I will have paid $40 for the one month. This is expensive compared to other hosting services. But the speed is unmatched. It’s very fast.

It’s important to note that google cloud requires that you have some experience designing with cloud services. Setting up requires that you fill and complete several admin modules before you start a project.

So, in other words, on a normal month, this service alone will cost $46 when you include google workspace for emails. Is this amount within your budget? Remember it may be even more for Google cloud depending on your usage.

Now let’s compare this with Dreamhost web hosting services.

    DreamHost Web Hosting Services

When you subscribe to Dreamhost, you get everything under one package for the shared hosting. In this I mean, you get unlimited business emails for you and your staff, host unlimited websites and more. This is all offered in one place. You don’t have to pay separate bills for the services compared to google products.

Setting up email addresses and websites is easy. Dreamhost has almost every web design installer like wordpress, drupal, Joomla and more readily available on their cpanel. All these installers are free to use once you purchase a package from them.

Unlike Google, Dreamhost hosting services sell other products like storage and document services separately. In fact they actually resell google products. This does not change anything because you can access the same products for free when you have a gmail account. Same case with Office360, you only need a Microsoft user account.

Now, when it comes to cost, there is a huge variation. If you are a new customer, you get the service at a discounted price. For existing users, you pay $13.99 per Month or $155 a year for the shared hosting. They have no hidden fees. This is a friendly price to anyone running an online business.

Also, emails sent to you by users via the contacts pages of your website are delivered to your inbox. This is another win.

    Summary of the Comparison

    Conclusion

As you can see, website hosting service providers like Dreamhost still wins in terms of cost, user experience, customer service, and email hosting. Google is still expensive for users with static websites. They need to find a way to merge google workspace and google cloud if they desire to serve small business owners like myself who need both email and web hosting services in one place.

  • 3 Tools You Need To Have To Qualify As A Remote Video Editor

In this article, I am going to share with 3 Tools you need to have to qualify as remote video editor working from home. Using the tools I am going to mention here is self thought.

    Computer

Video editing requires a computer with high processing speed and a graphics card. The later does not matter much if your computer processor speed and Ram is good. For example, my computer is a COi5 Windows OS with 10GB Ram and handles video editing very well.
If you can get COi7 for the windows OS the better. Most computers and laptops with high specs comes packaged well with good RAM. For mac users, all I can say is you are good to go. Most recent Mac machines have good built in graphics card and processor. This means if you can afford to get a Mac machine, you are ready to get started.

    Premium Video Editing Software

You need video editing software for editing videos. There are many video editing softwares out there. However few of them are popularly used professionaly. Popular professionaly used video editing softwares are Adobe premiere pro, Camtasia studio, Final cut pro, Davinci and Avid media composer.
When getting into video editing, its good to have one thing in mind, all of the video editors are out to achieve one goal- edit and enhance the quality of the video. Once you learn how to use one video editor, it will be easy to use other video editors since they have closely similar layouts.
If you have never edited video before, you learn how to edit videos on YouTube.

     Good Quality Earphones

Good earphones or headphones are very necessary as they help with speeding up the editing process. System speakers are sometimes inaudible and destructs people around you. • The Freelancer’s Guide To Building A Sustainable Business In 2024: 2 Key Strategies

If you are a freelancer, you have some benefits that can help you create a lasting online business, unlike someone who has a regular job. For example, freelancers can decide their own schedule. They work when they want. This gives them the opportunity to take care of their businesses.
For someone who has a fixed employer, their main concern when it comes to work is pleasing their boss. The boss sets the hours they have to work.

Video – Escape The Freelance Hamster Wheel – Build Your Own Business

This means that as a freelancer in 2024, you have a better chance of success if you start a business now. That’s why in this blogpost, I will share with you 2 strategies to build a thriving business as a freelancer.

Use Your Skills from Freelance Sites To Build a Niche Business

Launching your own business is exciting, but the initial uncertainty can be daunting. Freelancing platforms offer a springboard, a dynamic testing ground to discover your entrepreneurial calling. As you complete diverse projects, pay close attention to the tasks that spark joy and expertise. Is it web design that gets your creative juices flowing? Or do you find analyzing data deeply satisfying? Recognizing these inclinations is your first step.

Next, use the platform’s search engine and project listings to delve deeper. What specific niches within your chosen field are in high demand? Are there recurring project types you excel at? This intel is invaluable. By analyzing your strengths and aligning them with market needs, you’ll uncover a lucrative niche – your sweet spot.

Remember, freelancing is a stepping stone. Once you’ve identified your niche, leverage the platform’s network and reputation to build your own portfolio and client base. Create a dedicated website showcasing your expertise and target specific clientele. Don’t underestimate the power of testimonials and positive reviews from platform clients – they add social proof and credibility.

As your independent business flourishes, gracefully transition away from the platform, taking your established client base and honed skills with you. Remember, the platform was a stepping stone, not a destination. By using it strategically, you’ve transformed from a freelancer to a business owner, ready to conquer your chosen niche. So, step onto the platform, explore, experiment, and discover your true entrepreneurial potential. The path to your dream business might just begin with a well-placed click.

Be The Go To Expert in Your Local Area

Your local community can be a breeding ground for entrepreneurial dreams. Starting as a local freelancer allows you to tap into existing networks and build authority within a specific niche. Imagine yourself as a freelance writing whiz, sought after for crafting compelling website copy for local businesses.

The beauty lies in starting small. Attend local networking events, connect with business owners, and showcase your expertise. Offer initial consultations at reduced rates to demonstrate your value. Word-of-mouth recommendations travel fast in a close-knit community, quickly establishing you as the go-to expert.

As you garner clients, resist the urge to stay stagnant. Use that income to invest in building your business presence. Develop a professional website highlighting your services and testimonials. Partner with local graphic designers for a brand identity that resonates with your community. Consider offering workshops or speaking engagements to further solidify your expertise.

Remember, every satisfied client is a potential walking advertisement. Deliver exceptional service, exceed expectations, and nurture genuine relationships. Soon, your local freelance work won’t just be an income stream – it will be the foundation of a thriving, community-rooted business. You’ll be the name on everyone’s lips, not just a freelancer, but the local expert everyone trusts.

    Conclusion

While the initial glow of freelancing is undeniable, its very flexibility can become a double-edged sword. The constant hustle for projects, the feast-or-famine cycles, and the blurred lines between work and life can be addictive, yet ultimately trap you in a cycle of tasks without building something bigger.

Owning a business, however, liberates you from this treadmill. It shifts the focus from simply “doing” to “building.” You chart the course, set the vision, and create a structure that fosters growth and impact. Instead of being solely tethered to client demands, you’re empowered to say “yes” to the projects that align with your long-term goals, shaping your business into the embodiment of your passion.

Sure, the responsibility is greater, but so is the reward. It’s the difference between renting a swanky apartment and designing your dream home. The latter, while demanding effort, grants you ownership, freedom, and the satisfaction of creating something truly your own. So, step off the freelance hamster wheel and embrace the liberating power of building a business. It’s where you truly discover your entrepreneurial potential and leave a lasting mark on your community, and maybe even the world.
